Clannad

by rav3n on Oct.19, 2008, under Visual Novel

“Clannad is a Japanese visual novel created by the software company Key, who also produced the successful titles Kanon and Air.
The visual novel was later ported to the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Xbox 360. The gameplay in Clannad follows a linear plot line, which offers pre-determined scenarios and courses of interaction, and focuses on the appeal of the five female main characters.”
(-hijacked from wikipedia)

First off: No, I don’t plan on updating the blog only once in a month. I’m just a lazy basta…. guy who isn’t motivated enough to blog something every week. That said, look forward to Clannad. :)

Clannad is probably the funniest VN (Visual Novel) I played so far. Jokes at every corner, lovely characters and a deep story*.
Actually I wanted to blog it yesterday and took some screenshots, but instead I played through a whole arc ….
*You’ll really want to learn more about the characters and how it goes on. Besides you get a sweet epilogue. But I guess the best thing is: Whenever you start an arc, you get a really long story with that characters (which is really good in my option).

Story: *****/5
Characters: ****/5
Graphics: ****/5
BGM: ****/5
Voice: *****/5
SFX: ***/5

Overall Rating: 4,2

Okay let’s start:
Story: The story depends on which ending you are going but overall they are all really good and well made. Everyone who likes drama/romance stories with humor is right here.
Characters: You get much information about the characters and their personalities. There aren’t any hate characters (well some side characters maybe :p).
Graphics: They did their work with character design and background design. Though they still left some things out, like: Sunohara gets beat up but there aren’t really any bruises on him.
Music: Well, the background music was so-so. Nothing outstanding here but at least a “Music Room” option. :)
SFX: Either I didn’t hear much SFX or I can’t remember. Anyway, the SFX in other VN is way better (they go more into detail with things like “Boy A suddenly gets up and pushes the chair behind” and you can hear the sound from the floor and chair. Clannad was lacking such detail.).

Oh noez, a sudden love confession !

Barge in, of course !

Indeed, they are unnecessary

“Kick it back right where it came from” is what my mind told me

“That’s why you should believe in ME who believes in YOU !”

Actually, I’m not sure if that’s a boy or a girl.

I had the choice to dub something over Sunohara’s favourite CD
What do you guys think, which one did I choose ? :)

Tsukihime

by rav3n on Aug.01, 2008, under Visual Novel

Tsukihime (月姫 lit. Moon Princess) is a Japanese eroge dojin visual novel game created by Type-Moon.

“Tsukihime chronicles the story and life of a teenage boy named Shiki Tohno. As a young boy, Shiki suffered a life-threatening injury. As a result of this injury, Shiki became able to see “death lines” on objects and people; if Shiki traces these lines with a sharp object, the person or object that they belong to will be cleanly and easily cut.”

Personal Comment: ……….. PURE EPIC WIN

But guess what:

A remake of Tsukihime is planned by Type-Moon for a future release in 2009 with updated art and story.

Yup I was too lazy to do some ingame screenshots (maybe I’ll do some later).

Secret of Evangelion Portable

by rav3n on Aug.01, 2008, under Visual Novel

Yup a visual novel for the PSP again. This time I got my hands on “Secret of Evangelion Portable”. Important Characters are fully voiced (except the main character (? I’m not sure if he’s the MC)) and I think the VA (Voice Actors) were the same as in the anime (Japanese version). A “ReRead” feature was also included (but no “ReHear” for the voices …). Ah, a tutorial was also there (skipped it tho :’] ).

Soundtrack is the same as in the anime (well maybe better quality). That isn’t bad because I liked the anime soundtrack (most of it …).

Ah right, I don’t know if the game is based on another novel or anything new. Anyway … I played it a bit and the only “new” (meaning not-in-other-visual-novels) is the “Proceeding System” (Yup, I named it). You got some “action points” that you can use to well… run around (look at the pics).

I watched the NGE anime & read some manga volumes (manga is better btw). Although I’m a fan of NGE, I didn’t like the visual novel much. You could get the game if you are a hardcore NGE fan but everyone else can just skip it.

Main Menu
I was surprised that even the option menu was in english (I guess the left means BGM/Effects/Voice & Text Speed - Don’t know the order tho…)

Nuuuuuh, right on the path of destruction (Asuka) … Oh wait, Rei-chan is catching up, Yay !
Wussat ? I don’t know but there was a serious soundtrack D:

Suzumiya Haruhi No Yakusoku

by rav3n on Jul.31, 2008, under Visual Novel

“Suzumiya Haruhi No Yakusoku” is a visual novel based on the second novel “Suzumiya Haruhi no Tameiki” which translates to “The Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi”, haruhi takes on the role of a film director and forces the SOS-Brigade into producing a film for the impending School Cultural Festival.

“Although the story in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yakusoku is based on the “The Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi,” the scenarios and overall material are new and written exclusively for the game. Multiple endings are also possible depending on the actions that one takes over the course of the game.”

The game starts with an animated opening (I think it’s the same as in the anime). After you start a “New Game” you see the next animated scene. I’m not sure if the voice is the same as in the anime (didn’t watch haruhi in japanese - didn’t even finish the anime yet AND YEAH I KNOW EPIC PHAIL). You can reread the whole written stuff and you can let it replay the voices.

Found a youtube video with a few ingame CGs.

Code Geass: Lost Colors

by rav3n on Jul.09, 2008, under Visual Novel

A second game, titled Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Lost Colors was developed for the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2. It is a visual novel game which follows a new protagonist named Rai (ライ), who suffers from amnesia.

mark to read about the Geass ability the main character has:
————————————————–
He has a Geass ability similar to Lelouch’s, but is activated by voice.
————————————————–

Plays itself just like any other visual novel game. Much text & a few choices to answer for different endings. Code geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Lost Colors is more a “dating game” than an action game. You can choose from around 7 girls (including Nagisa Chiba, the girl who luvs Tohdoh). But don’t worry, there’s some mecha action aswell.

**EDIT: The mecha action is based on text. That means it’ll be something like “I dodged his attack and now I’ll …” - “Counterattack / Fall back / …” etc .

Eyecandies:
Every Picture is from the PSP game itself, none of these are from the anime.

Nunnally, Nippon Banzai !!

Weclome to the Order of the Black Knights ? (Kuro no Kishidan)

Uhh… Fanservice Kallen getting … excited ? …
